Offspring after Peno in our herd. (Pedigree below)
Peno is a bull that originates from the dual-purpose populations in Austria and Germany. The bull is known for his excellent abilities in terms of meat production, musculature, frames and exterior as well as easy calvings. Peno is dark red in color and often inherits this color to its offspring.
In the late 1990s, Peno was introduced to Denmark by Nyholms Simmental, who bred a really good Peno son, Nyholms Uriel, who became a Danish AI-bull.
Although Peno was born way back in 1994 (!), the bull is still (or precisely because of that) extremely interesting from a breeding point of view. In his pedigree are two of the greatest breeding matadors in the history of German Fleckvieh – namely Panzer and Hassan. Semen of Peno is no longer available on the market, but since we still have a few straws lying around, we still have the opportunity to produce an outcross with Peno, as Peno has a completely different pedigree than what is common in both Denmark and abroad. And now we can use him on, for example, a homozygous polled heifer with a new unknown pedigree and be sure to get a polled calf! We’ve been waiting for that – that’s why we saved the straws for so long time! (Pedigree below). We used him in our flush-program in Australia. Pictures of offspring:
