GENETIC RESTART BY 28 YEARS OLD FLECKVIEH BULL!<\/p>\n

\u201cOutcross\u201d is an English term for a cross with a completely different breed or breeding line completely without common ancestors as far back as the eye can see in the genes. It’s the way to introduce new completely unrelated genetic material into a population. It increases genetic diversity, reducing the risk of individuals with genetically determined diseases or genetic abnormalities. Increasing the variation of genes in the gene pool protects also against stress factors from the environment, showed a veterinary study of the genetic diversity within cat breeds.<\/p>\n

Making “out-cross” is therefore especially important in these years, where some of Europe’s beef simmentals have incredibly close family ties in a single common “roundabout”. Using a bull born 28 years ago that has not been used for 10 generations or more has exactly same effect as using a brand-new bull that came from a completely unknown population or even a different breed!<\/p>\n

Therefore, we have now reintroduced the old Austrian bull “GS Start” (born 1992) from the Austrian dual-purpose population. One of our good colleagues, William Rix, Nyholms Simmental had many years ago great success with “GS Start” – here about 15 – 20 years later we still remember Starts daughters as excellent, long strong cows with lots of shape, good hooves and limbs added an excellent durability, high milk yield and good udders and not least: Muscular animals!<\/p>\n

In Austria, “GS Start” showed the same with daughters of this standard. Many of them milked through many lactations and lay with life yeild of over 100,000 kg. relatively fatty and protein-rich milk \u2013 which is important for a suckler-calf. All this fits in as well with our breeding goals as you can find at the top of this page.<\/p>\n

We expect a lot from the restart of this excellent old Fleckvieh genetics. We believe that this \u201cnew\u201d old genetics will prove to be a true outcross! Here is a picture of his first 2 calves – already showing an exceptionally large potential with musculature and growth. Docile temperament! Bottom pedigree on GS Start. Yes \u2013 at Sneumgaard we continue to hold the flag high as \u201cgenetic first mover\u201d \u2013 a brand we really go for!<\/p>\n
